Today is a Gift – That’s Why it’s Called The Present

Two men, both seriously ill, occupied the same hospital room.

One man was allowed to sit up in his bed for an hour each afternoon to help drain the fluid from his lungs.

His bed was next to the room’s only window

The other man had to spend all his time flat on his back.

The men talked for hours on end.

They spoke of their wives and families, their homes, their jobs, their involvement in the military service, where they had been on vacation..

Every afternoon, when the man in the bed by the window could sit up, he would pass the time by describing to his roommate all the things he could see outside the window.

The man in the other bed began to live for those one hour periods where his world would be broadened and enlivened by all the activity and color of the world outside.

The window overlooked a park with a lovely lake.

Ducks and swans played on the water while children sailed their model boats.. Young lovers walked arm in arm amidst flowers of every color and a fine view of the city skyline could be seen in the distance.

As the man by the window described all this in exquisite details, the man on the other side of the room would close his eyes and imagine this picturesque scene.

One warm afternoon, the man by the window described a parade passing by.

Although the other man could not hear the band – he could see it in his mind’s eye as the gentleman by the window portrayed it with descriptive words.

Days, weeks and months passed.

One morning, the day nurse arrived to bring water for their baths only to find the lifeless body of the man by the window, who had died peacefully in his sleep.

She was saddened and called the hospital attendants to take the body away.

As soon as it seemed appropriate, the other man asked if he could be moved next to the window. The nurse was happy to make the switch, and after making sure he was comfortable, she left him alone.

Slowly, painfully, he propped himself up on one elbow to take his first look at the real world outside.
He strained to slowly turn to look out the window besides the bed.

It faced a blank wall.

The man asked the nurse what could have compelled his deceased roommate who had described such wonderful things outside this window.

The nurse responded that the man was blind and could not even see the wall.

She said, ‘Perhaps he just wanted to encourage you.’

Epilogue:

There is tremendous happiness in making others happy, despite our own situations.

Shared grief is half the sorrow, but happiness when shared, is doubled.

If you want to feel rich, just count all the things you have that money can’t buy.

‘Today is a gift, that is why it is called The Present .’

I don’t know the origin of this story, but I felt compelled to share it with you. If you too were moved by this, share it too! May your days be filled with an abundance of love, joy, hope, wealth, good health and happiness.

Millionaire Money Game – Day 1 – $1,000

It may seem strange to some people for me to be playing a game in the middle of my heartbreak. However, for me, this felt like the perfect time to be playing a game dedicated to attracting prosperity from the Universe for the simple reason that my mom and I could use some money magnetization now more than ever! Want to play with me? Today is day 1, but you can still sign up here.

millionaire-money-game-day-1

Today, the Universe has gifted me with $1,000. As long as I spend all of it today, I don’t have to pay it back. So, here’s what I’m spending it on:

I’m paying $1,000 in advance for 200 hours of VA time from this gal I once worked with in the Philippines. Over the course of those 200 hours I’ll have her handle a lot of my social media updates that I simply don’t have the energy to handle while I deal with the pressing family issues at hand. This money will give me 5 weeks at 40 hours per week of social media postings! I feel it’s money more than well spent.

Thank you Universe for gifting me this money that will not only free up some of my time, but will also allow me to make money from this gift as my VAs can post money making social media updates!

Prosperity Prayer for more Money

Prosperity Prayer:

Dear God,

Thank you so much for all you have given me. I am so happy and grateful for the abundance I already have. You amaze me with your love, blessings and rewards we receive everyday without even asking or realizing what we are receiving.

Father, I give you my life and today surrender all my financial concerns to you. I already know that you have told me I do not need to worry or have fears about anything. You have already told us that you take care of everything and we just need to trust and have faith.

I completely trust that my finances and debts will be paid and I will have a constant flow of money in my life starting today.

I only think of the positive now never looking at the past. I believe that my prosperity is here and I thank you for it now. I also want to thank you for showing me how to handle my finances carefully and also for teaching me how my prosperity can be of help to your kingdom.

Father, thank you for all your great rewards! I will continue to work diligently and strive to do my best in all that I do.

Thank you God, Amen.

Thank you Seeds of Prosperity for sharing such a lovely prayer on your website.  I’m so grateful I found it today, and I’ve already recited it aloud! Here’s to a life filled with abundance for all!

Gratitude Journal 12/12/16

Life is meant to be lived! So live it!

I’ve been on a journey lately of self love, exploration, discovery and gratitude. In an effort to squash my depression and boost my self esteem, I’ve found myself listening to countless podcasts, watching inspirational videos and reading line after line of uplifting text. It’s been heavy on my heart lately to start writing about all of these things. So, I want to start a gratitude journal here at my internet home base. I also want to blog a lot more about, well, a lot more. But, one thing that has held me back is fear of what people will think. Another has been fear over not being “niched down enough.” I’ve decided that I don’t care about any of that anymore. I want to share my thoughts and feelings, and I plan to just go for it. No lead ups or announcements – just writing when the mood strikes!

I may not remember or have time to write a gratitude post every day, but I’m going to try to at least write about what I’m thankful for more often. And, as for not being niched down enough…I plan to categorize everything I write here so that people who are interested in specific topics will only see what they want to read about. That is the beauty of categorizing after all, isn’t it? To place each item in it’s own niche, but be a part of a larger hub? I think so. And, it’s exactly what I’m going to do. Write all the things! Here! On my home base. Who knows? Later the things I write could be transferred to authority niche sites, but for now, the key is for me to start finally getting out all of the things I NEED to say. The things that are weighing my heart and my mind down. This is the first thing I’m thankful for today – the courage to finally start writing out my heart and mind.

I’m also thankful for the internet and the ability to work anywhere with a WiFi connection. In fact,  I plan to release several blog posts about that topic! I just love the freedom working this way has afforded me.

Finally, I’ll conclude with the biggest thing I’m thankful for. I plan to write at least three things daily in this gratitude journal of mine…The biggest thing I’m grateful for is my husband. I know it’s cliche, but it’s so true for me. Out of everyone in my life, he is the only person that has stood by me through everything. Rooting me on when I needed a boost, calming me down when I’m dealing with trials and tribulations, and loving me no matter what. It’s rare to have someone who you truly believe will love you no matter what, and I’m so damn grateful that he and I crossed paths nearly 14 years ago. We’ve been married for 10, and I have to say that even tho not every day has been easy, I wouldn’t trade him for anyone.

There it is, my first gratitude journal post. Wow! Feels good to write things out. I definitely need to do this more often 😀

Life Coaches – How Many Frauds Are There?

Lately, my inbox has been FLOODED with emails featuring all these awesome free webinars that hold “the key” to wealth and happiness. At the end of each “free” webinar I’m offered the opportunity to buy their complete program for eleventy billion dollars complete with a bajillion workbooks and if I act right now I’ll also get MP3s guaranteed to help me connect directly to the universe to put in my order for everything I want. Still not convinced? Well, they will throw in a whole bunch of videos and even send me a zip file filled with affirmations and quotes written on cute kitten pictures or a photo of a sunset. Only if I act right now though!

Now, I’m all about positive thinking and affirmations to channel getting the things you want out of life, but with the sheer magnitude of emails I’m getting offering me these promises of my key to wealth, I can’t help but wonder if many of these self proclaimed self-help gurus are just all full of shit and hoping I will buy their program so that they can finally be making the money they claim they already have.

I think I’m going to write a book about how I became a
millionaire and fill it with affirmations and quotes about the Law of
Attraction and all kinds of shit about coaching yourself to wealth and happiness and
sell it for $50 each and promote it as how I made my wealth and then
once I am actually a millionaire from it the damn book will have been
true and I will be a fraud no more!

What do you think? Am I going overboard here? Am I nuts? Or are there just waaaaaaaaaaaaaay too many cooks in the kitchen of the Law of Attraction claiming that THEY actually have the key to wealth and happiness and the other cooks stole their recipe?

Okay…this is the end of my venting blog post… Thanks for reading and have a wealth and happiness filled day!

Update: So I totally put this on facebook and got an awesome response that deserved to be shared! Posted comment on my facebook page on 1/9/14 at about 10:50 a.m. from the awesome Pamela Settle:

Good
rant! But seriously. Why are there so many coaches out there? I wonder
how many of them are Gen Xers who got shafted out of their careers and
needed to reinvent themselves. Also makes me wonder why so many people
are lacking interpersonal skills,
emotional
intelligence, business skills and common sense to the point of needing
paid help? We clearly aren’t teaching these important survival skills in
schools and if parents don’t know the stuff, they can’t pass it on.
And finally, is everyone stressed to the point of crumbling under the
pressure, and without access to supportive friends, getting a coach?
Sorry to hijack your blog, but I really do think about this stuff…

My comment back to Pamela, because you totes know you wanna know that too 😉

I think about it too Pamela Settle!!! Hence the rant on the blog. hahaha! I agree, there are a lot of skills that clearly are not being taught anymore. Everyone just expects to graduate high school/college and be handed a million dollar payheck. Sorry junior, but unless you are brilliant enough to get drafted by google or athletic enough to get drafted into sports or pretty enough to be in mags (you get my point)…it ain’t gonna happen. That’s why I’m writing eBooks and then know I’ll have to ACTUALLY WORK marketing them to sell them

What Would You Do if Money Were No Object?

I’ve had this question pop up several times since the beginning of the new year: What Would You Do if Money Were No Object?

After really thinking about it I decided I would put it in writing and share it with the universe…

If money were no object, I would be a traveling writer and photographer giving away my time and talents for free whenever the mood strikes. The truth is, I love writing and taking pictures. I want enough money in the bank as quickly as possible so that I can live off the interest for the rest of my life and just spend my days giving away my
time and talent for free whenever I want to.

How to Make 6 Figures in One Year

money image from salon

I said in a recent post that my goal beginning with this year is to make 6 figures a year annually. Here, now are 10 of my ideas of ways to make 6 figures in one year. At
the end of this list, feel free to add a comment if you have a better
way to make 6 figures in one year or if you would like to chime in about
how crazy/brilliant you think I am in the comments section.

1. Ask 100,000 people for $1 and assume they will give it to me. Or get
really crazy and ask 20,000 people for $5 and assume they will give it
to me 😉 Oh, that reminds me…Can you spare $5 to my BlogHer fund? If so, feel free to donate HERE!(Thanks in advance!!!)
2. Write a book, self-publish on Amazon, at $2 in royalties sell 50,000
copies to have $100,000. Repeat every year for the rest of my working
days.
3. Promote a product that is at least $100 on Amazon and get 25,000 people to purchase it since I currently get 4% of any purchase as an affiliate.
4. Sell 20,000 items on Fiverr.com. My current offer that is up is to “Paint Your Name Graffiti Style on Canvas for $5
5. Begin stripping in Pasco/Polk County (since someone said I’m too fat
to strip in Hillsborough- long story LOL) for a year hoping to earn
about $274 a night. Mom, if you are reading this- calm down. I’m not
actually going to become a stripper it was just an idea I had for this
list of 10 ways I could make 6 figures in a year!

6. Make a Youtube video
and try to make it go viral to make 6 figures. Not sure what the per
view rate would be so I’m not sure how many views I need for a viral
video- but you get the idea 😉
7. Use Google Adsense on all of my blogs and somehow get enough page
views on them to result in 6 figures. Again, not sure what the per view
rate would be but assuming a penny per view I would need 10,000,000 in
one year.
8. Write 4,000 blog posts for other people at $25 each
9. Work 2,000 hours as a photographer at $50/hr in one year
10. Get 1,000 freelance writing gigs at $100 each in one year. The most
I’ve gotten in one year was 52 gigs at $100/gig, but hey! I didn’t try
as hard as I should have and if I put my mind to it anything is
possible. Right? Right? Crickets? Seriously…was that sound byte really
necessary? Oh, those sounds are in my head? I guess I’m just losing
it…

Maybe I should just meet a millionaire and ask him for $100,000. This is
highly unlikely, but then again I’m very persuasive when I’m motivated
enough to get what I want. Ha!

In all honesty, I’m thinking the one I’ll pursue the hardest to make 6
figures this year is option #2 because I just finished writing my first
eBook and plan to self publish via Amazon this month 😉

There is ALWAYS Something to be Thankful For

Today, I’m feeling so very grateful and thankful for my career. In the past five years I’ve gotten to do things and see things I don’t think I ever would have if I had stayed on the path I was on before deciding to become a writer and photographer. In 2005 I was still an education major and believed that my path was to become a high school social studies teacher. I knew I could find a way to be content with it but something always felt off.

Luckily, one of my professors, my art professor in fact, told me she saw me in a different career. She visualized me as a member of the media and suggested I take a mass communications class as an elective. Figuring I had nothing to lose I took Professor Rick Wilber’s Introduction to Mass Communications and fell in love with ALL things media! After that I was done with education and changed my major to Mass Communications with emphasis in Magazine Journalism.

In February 2007 my very first article was published in the USF Oracle. Since then I have loved every minute of being a writer and photographer. There have been ups and downs but at the end of the day this is everything I could have ever dreamed of and more. I love my job and I look forward to every story I write and every photograph I take! I also look forward to actually becoming The Famous Ashley Grant!

Sure, I’m not 100% where I want to be in my career yet, but I know that if I continue on my current path I will have everything I want and get to keep doing the things I love to do. I do still want to teach, but I think my path will bring me to grad school to teach at the college level and instead of teaching social studies I’ll teach journalism, but that is several years off. I have so much more I want to do before becoming a teacher.

I will write books, I will write more articles, I will take a crap ton more photos and I will BE the Famous Ashley Grant. I am so thankful I get to do this as my career and I am so grateful that my husband has supported me in my dreams since I decided this would be what I would do for a living!
